I don't see how anyone could stop you from asking.
There are always personal reasons. There are
always disagreements on specific issues. This
was not a vote against ratification, so I do
not have to invent an explanation.
Almost four years ago, when this process began,
I was looking forward to being one of the rabble
while others did all the hard work. I was not
a member of the original group selected for the
Editors Committee, but agreed to serve when that
committee was expanded from five to seven members.
That committee was expected to do its job in two
years. When I submitted my resignation, however,
I thought the R6RS process was unlikely to finish
this year, its fourth. With a sabbatical coming
this fall, I wanted to spend my entire summer and
fall on more rewarding activities.
Those activities include improvements to Larceny.
Many things that have been proposed for R6RS can
be added to an R5RS-conforming system, and will
appear in the next few releases of Larceny. If
an R6RS is ratified, I would expect Larceny to
support it.
